Question From the Job Seeker:

I have done MBA with specialization in the field of Finance. Currently I am working in the customer care department of a local call center. Although, my degree offers me the perfect career in a bank, but I have preferred to work in a call centre, which is certainly not a career job. The reason for me to opt for such a job which is neither relevant to my field nor offers me a promising career, is that I am strictly against the concept of ‘interest’ which is the most important aspect of banking institutions throughout the world and is the main source of financial gain for them.

My concern is that can I do any job that is related to my field of study but does not restrict me to deal in interest. I would also like to have your opinion about choosing another field of study e.g. Human Resource Management or Marketing, so that I can make a better living with suitable career growth.

Answer From ROZEE:

Dear Zeeshan,

MBA is one of the most versatile degrees throughout the world. All the fields of specialization of an MBA degree lead you to a bundle of career opportunities. Similarly, for an MBA Finance degree holder, there are career paths in both financial and non-financial organizations. As per your reservations regarding ‘interest’ factor of the banks, you can try to join some other financial services sector like Stock Exchange, Stock Brokerage, Financial Research organizations or Asset Management companies. There is a huge potential in Pakistan’s financial and capital market. This sector is rapidly heading towards modernization, and major business organizations are in a dire need of professionals, who are well educated, job oriented and hardworking. Moreover, there are many Business Consultancy Firms in Pakistan which are quite suitable for your academic qualification and your personal interests.

On the other hand, every organization and institution has a Finance Department, which deals with their accounts and financial management. Every area associated with money and business administration, for instance, organizational behavior, research, operations, finance, accounting etc. needs the services of MBAs in general and MBA Finance degree holders in particular. You can easily get a job in the finance department of a company which can offer you a desirable professional growth and mental satisfaction. Furthermore, if you wish to establish your own business, MBA Finance can provide you relevant skills and the aptitude required for starting a business.

As far as further studies are concerned, we would first suggest you to look for a better job that satisfies your professional and financial demands. Once you are settled in a good organization, you can always pursue further studies, not just in the field of Marketing or HR but in any field that would add to your qualifications and match your interests.

Best of Luck!
