Question From The Job Seeker
I have been working in the chemical industry for the last five years. I have some issues that I need to address and cannot figure out how to do that. I am good at my job and my boss is very happy with me. There are no problems as everything works in my favor and my boss appreciates my work. He is always saying that I am the right person for the job. The problem is that I am doing a multitask job and even I am not aware of the specifics of my job description. I think this is proving to be a hurdle in my getting a raise. I have been working at the same pay for the last 5 years and have not been given a single raise. I do not know what more can I do since I am great at my job and my boss is always telling me that I am an asset for the company. Still he never offered me a raise in salary all these years. He is always offering me loans whenever I want but not a raise. After spending all this time in the company and working so hard for the boss I think it is fair enough that I be given a raise. Please guide me as to how can I get a raise in a salary without putting my job in jeopardy.
Answer From Rozee Team
Getting a raise in the salary is not only you basic right, but is also essential in keeping you motivated to perform your job properly. Any employer who values his employees is bound to give them a raise sooner or later to show his appreciation and encouragement. Since you claim that your boss is aware of your hard work and considers you an asset, there must be something else that is hindering the process of you getting a raise. You need to take care of a few things, which will surely help in clearing the air and will quite possibly get you the promotion.
- As you have pointed out yourself, you do not have a clear cut job description which might be one of the reasons that you are not getting the raise. Every position comes with a job description that is made clear when you are hired. If you were not told what your job description is at that time, do not hesitate to ask now. Go to your boss and ask him about it. Unless you have a given set of duties at your disposal, you cannot be sure that you are performing your duties properly.
- Talk to your boss about the salary raise, as he may not even have it in his mind that you are expecting one. Make a list of your accomplishments and talk to your boss. Make sure that you enumerate your accomplishments and present a strong case for yourself.
- Make sure that the amount of raise in salary that you are demanding is reasonable and is in accordance with the job market. Demanding too much salary can be the reason that you are not getting the raise that you badly want.
We sincerely hope that by acting upon the suggestions provided above, you will be able to get the promotion that you have been vying for.
Best of luck
