Boost Your Work Productivity
Are you feeling totally unproductive and are frustrated with your lack of enthusiasm for the projects at hand? You are not alone as a lot of people have felt the same way at some point in life. Productivity is a much desired trait in every employee and most of the employers yearn for a productive and hardworking employee. Once they find such an employee, they do everything in their power to retain them for as long as possible. However, even these highly productive employees can lose their motivation over time and thus become nonproductive.
Factors that affect work productivity
There are a lot of factors that affect the productivity of an employee and lead to lack of motivation. Once these problems are addressed properly, the productivity level of the employees can be enhanced a lot.
Culture of the organization
The culture and the environment of the organization that you work at contribute a lot towards increasing or decreasing your productivity. If the environment is positive and the employees are happy with their jobs, they are bound to be more productive. Similarly a negative work environment will curb the productivity of the employee. So in order to make sure that the employees are being productive, the managers should work on improving the office environment. Taking steps that make the employees feel valued and respected will definitely help in improving the work environment.
Low pay structure
Underpaid staff members are often unhappy and are much likely to suffer from lack of productivity as compared to the other employees who are being paid in accordance to their experience. The managers and the company heads need to realize that an underpaid employee will fail to be enthusiastic about his or her job. Such employees often spend more time looking for another job rather than concentrating on their jobs. In order to increase job satisfaction among the employees, the managers have to make sure that the employees are well paid and are satisfied with their jobs.
Difficult boss
Believe it or not, most of the times a difficult boss leads the employee to frustration and pushes him so much that the employee feels that there is no other way out other than resigning. Even if the employee does not resign, he is so stressed out due to dealing with a difficult boss daily that he fails to perform well. The bosses and the managers must realize that being difficult with an employee will not improve his quality of work rather it will end up decreasing the overall productivity level of the organization. The employees should be able to talk to their bosses if any problems arise and they need to know that their feedback and suggestion on any given topic will be appreciated.
Monotonous work
A dull routine and monotonous work can lead to dissatisfaction among the employees and retard their work productivity. Knowing that you have to repeat the same kind of duties everyday kills the motivation level of the employees. The managers and the company owners should realize this and keep challenging the employees on regular basis. Giving them challenging assignments will help in keeping the morale high as they will be excited about doing something new and different. This not only gives them a chance to prove their capability but also allows them to learn something new every day.
No rewards
When an employee works hard and puts a lot of effort in a project, he surely expects some reward, even if it means appreciation from the boss’s mouth only. Ignoring the hard work put up by an employee is a big mistake as it makes them think that whatever effort they put in, they will never be rewarded.
Difficult coworker
Dealing with a difficult coworker on daily basis can be tiresome and lead to dissatisfaction which ultimately diminished your work productivity. It is best to deal with such a difficult colleague permanently so that you do not have to suffer on daily basis. Try talking to the difficult coworker and see if you can get to the bottom of the problem and make things right between the two of you. If you cannot resolve the issues amicably, try to avoid him as much as possible and avoid getting into arguments with him.
Improve your work productivity:
No matter what might be the reason for you being nonproductive, there are quite a few things you can do to boost your productivity level.
Set goals
It is best to set goals so that you have a daily challenge to accomplish. This will motivate you to put more effort in work and it ends up boosting your productivity level. Even if the boss does not set a target for you, setting goals for yourself and challenging yourself to achieve the desired results can be quite motivating.
Delegate your work
It is also possible that you become less productive due to a lot of work pressure. If you are unable to handle the work on your own you might feel inadequate and lose your motivation. One way to handle that is by delegating your work to the team members and juniors. You have to keep in mind that you cannot do everything by yourself and you have to share the burden with others. This will make sure that you are neither overstressed nor unproductive.
Communicate
Communication is the most important aspect of any job. If you feel like you are not being rewarded for your hard work and you are being undervalued, talk to your manager or your boss about it. Make sure you are not complaining but let them know what your concerns are. If your manager or the boss values his employees he is bound to listen to your concerns and take action to rectify the legitimate ones.
Get organized
If you are unorganized you are bound to waste a lot of time looking for notes, documents and other such things. This in return will lower your work productivity and make you lose focus. Make sure that you keep your desk in order and have all the things lined up as you might need them during a busy work hour and might waste a lot of time looking for them.

As usual an interesting article! I would like to add that while you set goals for yourself and have achieved them, you must reward yourself for positive reinforcement.
This could be in the form of going out to dinner with someone you love at home or value at work, purchasing a clothing item, going on a long drive, buying yourself king-size ice-cream, or any other thing that crosses your mind. Idea is to have some fun after all the hard work!
