I have been working in development sector for the last three years. I have expertise in different NGO related sectors such as, community mobilization, social organization, training coordination, project implementation, data analysis, report writing and monitoring and evaluation. I have had a great career so far and have excelled at my job. Now I think it is time for me to move up the corporate ladder and I want to join a managerial level position in any national or international organization. However I am not sure whether I will be able to get selected in a managerial position or not. Moreover if I am selected for a managerial level job, I am not sure if I will be able to perform the tasks assigned to me effectively and efficiently. Please give me some relevant information regarding what qualities should a person possess in order to get a job at a managerial level and what are the steps for management and administration once a person is selected for the job. Tell me what attributes should be present in me to become an effective project manager. I shall be obliged to hear from u soon.

The fact that you have worked in so many different NGO sectors means you have gained considerable experience. With such rich experience you have no reason to doubt yourself and wonder if you will be selected at a managerial position. If you go to the interview properly prepared there is no need to worry. - Be well groomed for the interview.
- Practice all your answers again and again.
- Create a professional resume.
- Be on time.

To be an effective manager you must be organized and able to take care of all the tasks at hand effectively and efficiently. As a manager you have to handle all the team members and you cannot do this unless you are well-organized. You should be able to manage your time effectively and meet all deadlines. If you fail to meet the deadlines, your team members will stop respecting you and taking you seriously.
Be a dependable leader:
As an effective manager you should be someone whom the team members trust and can turn towards when they need help or guidance. You have to be open and easy to access.
Keep the communication doors open:
Communication is the key to being a good leader. Not only should you possess excellent communication skills but you also have to make sure that your team members polish their communications skills as well. They have to be able to communicate their problems and ideas to you as well as other team members.
Being fair when managing your team member is essential as the team members can breed a lot of resentment if you take credit for their work or give preferential treatment to one or more team members. Be fair and honest and try to keep the morale of the entire team up.
Stay calm and be able to take pressure:
The most important quality that a leader must have in his possession is a calm attitude and ability to work well under pressure. If a person fails to take pressure and panics when deadlines approach, he is unable to handle his team effectively.
