Ramadan is right around the corner, and while the thought of being home earlier during working days (at least for the most part) may seem appealing to some, most of us are already dreading having to come into work on an empty stomach, with no hopes of consuming water, tea or nicotine to get us through our day. While this thought may be troubling and even unsettling, fear not, for we will be looking into a few ways that could make your work-life during Ramadan much more easier.

Try Getting A Fast – Head Start

The most major impact of Ramadan on someone’s work life could perhaps be described as a complete change in their routine – from having to wake up in the middle of the night for Suhoor, to planning one’s meals on a completely different time schedule, everything basically changes. A good way to allow oneself a chance to seep into this new routine for the month would be to gain a headstart.

The idea is to start fasting a few days prior to the real thing, most preferably if there’s a weekend involved, in order to allow your mind and body to get used to your new routine. This way you will have an easier time adapting to your working routine without being pushed ito doing something different suddenly.

Eat Economically

No, this has nothing to do with the cost of the food you consume – eating economically during Ramadan reflects on the notion that you should eat smaller, more frequent meals during Iftar and Suhoor. This is a good way to keep your body healthy without going into an instant food coma within the first ten minutes of Iftar. The idea is to space out the boosts of energy gained through food in such a way that the effects persist longer.

Avoid Those Painful Withdrawals!

Many of us hooked onto some sort of substance – hopefully, it is usually between coffee or tea. If you are an avid consumer of either one (or both) of these consumables, then you know first hand just how difficult it could be to get through a working day without having them by your side.

A strategy many people implement in their efforts to prepare for Ramadan includes detoxification, which involves cutting down on all items that are consumed regularly within a grace-period before the month starts. This “tapering” process makes it easier to function through the day without being able to rely on these substances while fasting.

Get Plenty of Rest

There are no two-ways around this – when your body can’t rely on the source of energy provided by foo during the daytime, it is best for you to get plenty of rest whenever you can in order to not exhaust yourself. Sleeping in the evening time, for instance, could allow your body to go through less stress, hence not requiring too much energy on an empty stomach.

Get Sufficient Exercise

It is completely healthy to exercise during Ramadan. You don’t have to push your body beyond the threshold, but you may get your blood pumping during our after your fast – remember, exercise will keep your brain active and your body healthy. Your goal is to achieve good blood flow, not exhaustion.

Organize Your Work

It is important to give structure to your professional and personal life, especially when there is a new routine in place. You may want to schedule your daily tasks in a way that allows you to achieve your goals without putting you through too much stress. You would also want to manage your time while working on these tasks in order to compensate for the shorter working days. A good way to accomplish maximum productivity would be to sort the tasks by order of difficulty so that the more significant ones can be addressed in advance.
